The Day Aliens Attacked Fairfield

BY STEPHEN FRANKENFIELD

Kids Studio Performance Classes for Ages 8-12:

These small-scale performance classes offer students an introduction to developing character and rehearsing a play once a week for six weeks. A short performance on the final class period in our studio/classroom space will be presented for friends and family. Focus is on actor training, not on spectacle. All students are guaranteed a role, but space is limited. There may also be possibilities for learning Technical Theatre skills!

Show Description:

Fairfield’s a place where nothing ever happens, at least not since Billy Myers got that nasty papercut a decade ago.  And with the exception of a pair of vain newscasters, a few fringe skywatchers, and a kooky grandfather living in a galactically fantastic past, most townsfolk are okay with their humdrum ways.  Like it or not, though, the winds of change are about to descend on Fairfield faster than a delivery from the town’s famous Flying Saucer Pizza.

A couple of love-struck teens report an alien sighting, and Fairfield finds itself in a frenzy.  Luckily, the members of SAWPE (that’s the Society of Alien Watchers to Protect Earth) are selling tinfoil hats to help protect everyone.  Even the president comes to this sleepy burg, but not everyone in town agrees with his plan to attack the space-traveling Zordonians.

It’ll be up to a brave little girl and her unwavering grandpa to stop a war of the worlds in this ridiculously silly one-act comedy that’s out of this world!

Cost: $299
Class Dates: 9/10-10/15, 2023

Goldilocks on Trial

BY STUART L. SHEELEY

In this kooky spoof of TV courtroom dramas that’s perfect for younger actors and audiences, Amanda Marie Locks, known as Goldilocks or even “Goldie,” is on trial for breaking and entering and destruction of private property.

A wide cast of fairytale characters serve as witnesses for the prosecuting and defense attorneys.  To hear the Bare family tell it, Goldie should be found guilty.  But an unscrupulous judge and a slew of unreliable witnesses — including a blind witch, a forgetful old woman who lives in a shoe, a dwarf with a nasty disposition, a skittish tuffet-tester, and a country boy so dumb he’d trade beans for a cow — make it hard to build a case against the gal with the golden hair.

With so much conflicting testimony, no wonder the results are courtroom chaos!  The entire justice system is left in silly shambles in this slapstick one-act designed for laughs.

Chaos in Fairy Tale Forest

BY GEFF MOYER

Kids Studio Performance Classes for Ages 8-12:

These small-scale performance classes offer students an introduction to developing character and rehearsing a play once a week for six weeks. A short performance on the final class period in our studio/classroom space will be presented for friends and family. Focus is on actor training, not on spectacle. All students are guaranteed a role, but space is limited. There may also be possibilities for learning Technical Theatre skills!

Show Description:

When Red Riding Hood trips over a root in the forest, she spills her basket of goodies only to encounter Hansel and Gretel wanting her food basket.  They have finished off the gingerbread house and are now running from the witch.  Poor Red is confused — there’s no witch in her story!  But when Bambi scampers in, chased by Robin Hood, who is running from Goldilocks because he shot arrows at her three bears, Red knows the fairy tale forest is in total chaos!  From Snow White to the heartless Tin Man and the Headless Horseman to Rapunzel to the White Rabbit, the story just gets crazier and crazier!  To complicate matters, a Shrek-like Sheriff Ogre tries to shoo away the “legend” characters because they don’t belong in Fairy Tale Forest.  The hysterical stage action builds to a crescendo until all suddenly goes black.  When the lights come up, we realize it was all just a dream…  or was it?

Show Description:

When country mouse Sam calls out of the blue to invite his “cuz” for a family visit, urbanite Alex is skeptical.  But duly determined to re-connect with her rural kin, Alex puts family first and takes a leap — well, a flight — and then an “Oober” to the “fifth house down on the road by the crick.”

Her country visit goes quickly awry when Alex finds herself lost in another world…  a world without WiFi or indoor plumbing!  She skedaddles back to the security of city living, but then feels badly for cutting short her time with her country family.  So Alex extends an invitation to Sam, who quickly learns what it feels like to be a square peg in a round hole.  In a hysterical restaurant scene, Sam’s reaction to sushi embarrasses all of Sam’s urban friends and leaves the country bumpkin bumming.

Turns out, compatibility can be hard to come by, and there’s no clear answer as to whose way of living is better when two worlds collide.
